Dr Amanda Johnson is the Director of Academic Programs Undergraduate in the School of Nursing and Midwifery, at the University of Western Sydney. Amanda’s academic leadership at University of Western Sydney has been acknowledged by being awarded the Vice Chancellor’s Leadership Excellence Award for developing the Inherent Requirements in the nursing degree programs. This educational work has since been implemented nationally and internationally by other Schools of Nursing and Midwifery and the disability sector in higher education within Australia. Dr Johnson’s work associated with the Inherent Requirement development: Model and Framework, has been extended and incorporated by other disciplines. Amanda has also received several awards for her leadership in the teaching of chronic illness and palliation within the undergraduate program. In 2007, Amanda was recognised internationally for her leadership by the international organisation Sigma Theta Tau.
Dr Johnson’s PhD research on palliative care undergraduate nurse education has continued as she extends her research activities that incorporate interventions associated with aged care, chronic illness and palliation. This research has resulted in a number of publications in high quality journals, books and book chapters, conference presentations, and other scholarly activities and her H-index is currently 8. These academic outputs have been recognised by her recent appointment to the Scientific Editorial Board of InTech Open Access Publisher and as a peer reviewer of manuscripts submitted to high quality journals.
