Biography

Catherine lectures in primary mathematics pedagogy and comes from a primary teaching background. Her research is focused on engagement with mathematics and issues surrounding the pedagogical practices that influence students' engagement. Catherine is currently researching the effective use of mobile technologies to enhance the teaching and learning of mathematics and the effectiveness of sustained professional development on building teacher capacity and improving student learning outcomes. She is also involved in the 'Fair Go Bridges' project, investigating engagement of students in greater western Sydney. Catherine is also interested in promoting numeracy development during the early years, in line with the Early Years Learning Framework. Catherine regularly presents workshops and keynotes nationally and is an executive member of the Mathematical Association of New South Wales and secretary of the Mathematics Education Research Group of Australasia. She is also the current editor of the national journal, Australian Primary Mathematics Classroom.
