Biography

Daniel Nicholls worked at UWS at three distinct periods: 1990-1995 (Lecturer in Mental Health Nursing and Lecturer in Nursing - Philosophy); 2009 -2011 (Senior Lecturer); 2014 to 2017 (Senior Lecturer). He has continued PhD supervision as part of his post retirement contract, which ended in 2020, and maintains School involvement as an Adjunct Associate Professor. 

From 2011 to 2014 he was an Associate Professor at University of Canberra and inaugural Chair in Mental Health Nursing with ACT Health. He was the first conjoint appointment in mental health nursing in Victoria in 2002 (RMIT University and Austin Health) and inaugural Senior Psychiatric Nurse at Austin Health where he also was Adjunct Associate Professor with La Trobe University. He was the Foundation Locality Team Leader: Leichhardt Locality, Central Sydney Area Health Service in 1989, preceded by many years in clinical and leadership roles within hospitals and the community.

After obtaining his nursing qualifications from Gladesville Hospital and The Prince Henry & Prince of Wales Hospitals, Daniel studied at Macquarie University achieving his PhD in Philosophy in 1998 with the thesis: Obstacles and Le Doeuff’s imaginary or Consciousness vis à vis Philosophy’s Obstacles. He is actively engaged in professional activities both nationally and internationally.
