Biography
Dr Wu completed his MA in English at Huazhong University of Science and Technology in Wuhan, China in 1983 (thesis title: Lexical Cohesion in English Text), and worked as a lecturer and later associate professor of English at Shaanxi Institute of Mechanical Engineering in Xi?an. He was awarded a postgraduate research scholarship from the University of Newcastle (NSW) in 1988 and came to Australia to study for his PhD in the Department of Linguistics of the university (thesis title: Information Structure in Chinese). He worked as a lecturer of Chinese in the Modern Languages Department of the university in 1993. After being awarded his doctorate in the same year, Dr Wu joined UWS at the beginning of 1994. At UWS he has designed the Chinese program and developed the Chinese units at all levels, completed a series of research projects, worked as an affiliated fellow in the International Institute of Asian Studies, The Netherlands in 1998 and 2002, and is a member of the College Research Centre of Interpreting and Translation.
