Biography

Joanne Cummings is the Research Officer for the School of Nursing and Midwifery. She supports various research projects in the School. Her role involves project management, preparation of grant applications, reports and publications, preparing and analysing qualitative data using NVivo, as well as quantitative data, using SPSS. Joanne has worked with the School of Nursing and Midwifery since 2008, starting out as a Research Assistant in the Nursing Research Unit at Cumberland Hospital with Jane Cioffi and later moving to work with Lesley Wilkes at the Clinical Nursing Research Unit at Nepean Hospital.

Joanne holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Western Sydney and graduated in 2007. Her doctoral thesis entitled Sold Out! An Ethnographic Study of Australian Indie Music Festivals utilised ethnographic method and drew on a wide range of current debates around post subculture and neo-tribal theory to analyse a sample of music festivals, participants, promoters and media representations. Joanne has published journal articles and book chapters, taught undergraduate Sociology, Criminology and Cultural Studies at university and presented her research internationally
