Biography

John Hadley?s research serves to consolidate the project of moral inclusion initiated by the first-generation of philosophers working on animal and environmental issues. His place as a key member of the second generation of animal ethicists was secured by the inclusion of ?Nonhuman Animal Property: Reconciling Environmentalism and Animal Rights? in a major new survey anthology on animal rights (Animal Rights, Clare Palmer ed. Ashgate, 2008). Commenting on his animal property rights theory, one international expert recently said: ?Hadley's proposal to develop a theory of animal property rights is easily the most intriguing and original idea I have encountered in ten years of research on the subject.? John has refereed papers for journals such as Political Studies, Journal of Applied Philosophy, Social Theory and Practice and Journal of Value Inquiry. He was an invited speaker at ?Minding Animals? at the University of Newcastle in July 2009, and ?Alternatives to Animals?, at the University of Sydney in October 2008. He has lectured at the University of Sydney and Charles Sturt University (School of Communication, and School of Humanities and Social Sciences).
