Biography
Growing up right opposite the current Kingswood campus of UWS, Mark was educated at local Kingswood schools, did his undergraduate degree in History, English and Psychology, and his honours and doctoral work in History, all at the University of NSW. After some time in high schools, he was appointed to the Macquarie University 25 Year History project under Em. Prof. Bruce Mansfield, before proceeding to run a research centre, and then spend ten years as Reader in History and Society at Alphacrucis College. Among other things, Mark has been Associate Director of the Pew Charitable Trusts 'Currents in World Christianity Project', editor of, and/or contributor and reviewer for, a number of scholarly journals (including theJournal of Religious History) and various conference cycles. Books includeLiberty of Opportunity: A History of Macquarie University 1964-1989(Sydney: Hale & Iremonger, 1991);Pellegrini: an Italian Protestant Community in Sydney, 1958-1998(Sydney: LHCC, 1999);Iron in Our Blood: A history of the NSW Presbyterian Church 1788-2001(Sydney: Ferguson, 2001) andA Short History of Global Evangelicalism(Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 2012), in addition to which he has edited numbers of conference and compilation volumes.
