Biography

Dr. Mustapha Taibi obtained a Ph.D in English Linguistics from the University of Alcalá (Madrid, Spain) in 2001. His doctoral thesis was about face and power relationships between native and non-native speakers of English. Prior to that he had completed the Postgraduate Diploma of Specialist in Education and International Cooperation for Development at Complutense University  (Madrid, Spain - 1998) and the Bachelor of Arts English Linguistics at  Abdelmalek Essaadi University (Tetouan, Morocco - 1993). He taught English linguistics and Community Translation and Interpreting at the University of Alcalá from 2002 to 2006. Since 2006 he has been teaching translation, interpreting, Semantics & Pragmatics and Intercultural Pragmatics at the University of Western Sydney. Currently he is Director of Academic Program, Languages, Interpreting and Translation. His research interests include community interpreting and translation as well as discourse analysis. He has recently published the first book in Arabic about community translation and interpreting and a number of book chapters and journal papers in high quality publications such as Interpreting (John Benjamins) and the Oxford Handbook of Translation Studies. Dr. Taibi is currently supervising a number of PhD candidates whose research projects fall under community interpreting or sociolinguistics.
