Biography
Navin is a lecturer and researcher in the School of Humanities and Communication Arts. His primary teaching focus has been in the units Media Cultures & Industries and Data Mediation Power. One of the core elements of his teaching philosophy is in using creative practice as a way of engaging with the theoretical and conceptual terrain of the communications field. Recently he has been experimenting with convolutional neural networks, fire, imagery and film.

Current Research and Creative Interests
Research in image processing using convolutional neural networks. This approach has been used on still images, on video and on 360 video. It has been used to explore themes related to the surveillance society, spirituality, temporality and community responsiveness to threats.
A principle theme of the creative and conceptual work have involved fire in a number of different contexts. Fire as a performative and temporal medium, fire and performance as a way of revealing what is hidden through algorithmic processing and immersive video as a way of community outreach in bush fire prone areas.
