Biography

Dr Cheng obtained the Bachelor, Master and PhD degrees from the Anhui University (1982), Academia Sinica (1985) and the University of Melbourne (1995) respectively, all in electrical engineering. Since 1995, Qi has been a research fellow and lecturer at the University of Melbourne, the Northern Territory University and the University of Western Sydney.

Dr Cheng obtained a Bachelor, Master and PhD from the Anhui University (1982), Academia Sinica (1985) and the University of Melbourne (1995) respectively, all in electrical engineering.

Between January 1995 and February 1996, Qi was a research fellow at the University of Melbourne to work on DOA and polarization estimation using dipoles and loops. He held a teaching position at the Northern Territory University from February 1996 to July 1998. He joined the University of Western Sydney in July 1998.

He has taught a wide range of subjects covering electrical, computer and telecommunications. He has been members of a variety of communities. He has been a course advisor for Electrical, Computer and Telecommunication since 2008.

He is working on parameter estimation for problems in telecommunications, radar processing and harmonic retrieval. He has developed algorithms and conducted performance analysis on frequency synchronization of OFDM systems, detection and estimation of DOAs using less sensors than targets and frequency estimation. He has published over 40 technical papers, with around 10 (ERA A*/A ranked) journal papers.

He has supervised/co-supervised a few PhD students.

He is the co-editor of the book "High-Resolution and Robust Signal Processing" published by Marcel Dekker in 2003.

Qi is an expert on signal processing with applications to telecommunicaitons, radar and harmonic retrieval. Among many of his contributions, he developed fast algorithms for array calibration and the determination of the number of targets. He is the co-editor of the book "High-Resolution and Robust Signal Processing" published by Marcel Dekker in 2003. He was included in Marquis "Who's Who in the World" in 2005 and Marquis "Who's Who in Science and Technology" in 2005-2006.

Qi  is currently working on frequency synchronization of OFDM systems, detection and estimation of DOAs using less sensors than targets and frequency estimation.
