Biography
Dr Tracy Olverson is a Lecturer in Literary Studies in the School of Humanities and Communication Arts. She is a feminist literary and cultural critic with a research focus on nineteenth century Britain. Her primary research expertise is on women’s writing and women’s appropriation of classical literature and culture. Tracy has published on a variety of Victorian women writers, including Amy Levy, Michael Field and Emily Pfeiffer, all of who feature in Tracy’s recent monograph, Women Writers and the Dark Side of Late-Victorian Hellenism (Palgrave, 2010). Tracy has also published in the area of women’s travel writing, and she is currently working on a monograph considering the appropriation of ancient Rome in nineteenth century literature and culture.
In addition to Victorian Literature, Tracy has a special interest in Writing Therapy and its potential application in the field of Juvenile Justice. Tracy is currently developing a research project in this area with others researchers from UWS.
Before joining the University of Western Sydney, Tracy taught at Newcastle University (UK) for over five years. It was at Newcastle University where Tracy completed her Research Masters (MLitt) in nineteenth-century women’s writing and her PhD in Victorian Literature and Culture.
