Biography

Wayne obtained the award Doctor Of Philosophy from The University of Western Sydney for the thesis 'Unregistered proprietary horse racing in Sydney 1888-1942'. His primary research interests are the cultural history of horse racing, the morphology of the racecourses of Sydney, and historical racecourse design and infrastructure.

His recent publications include chapters in the Cambridge Companion to Horseracing  2013 ('Sydney or the Bush')  and the Australian Dictionary of Biography Volume 18 2012  ('George Ryder'), and the collection of racing novellas and  short stories The Gambler's Ghost and Other Racing Oddities.

Wayne has worked previously for the University of Technology Sydney, The Sydney Turf Club, Sydney Organising Committee for the Olympic Games, News Ltd and Telstra.
