Biography

Wendy graduated with the University Medal in Medicine from the University of Sydney in 1986 and went on to specialise in General Practice with special interests in child health. She has postgraduate qualifications and experience in paediatrics, health adminstration and general practice. Wendy has been associated with the Children's Hospital at Westmead (CHW) since 1989, initially working in the ambulatory section of the Emergency Department and more recently as the inaugural Director of Education. In this role she oversaw the strategic development of education and training for all clinical and general staff, and operational management of the Education Centre and the first high fidelity paediatric simulation centre in Australasia.

Prior to this Wendy was Senior Lecturer in Medical Education at the University of Sydney, working at Westmead Hospital and the Office of Medical Education on developing core curriculum, designing an online curriculum map which was subsequently commercialised. Wendy's research experience began with commissioned evaluations of primary health care policy and clinical leadership programs, which followed her Masters of Health Administration (UNSW). She completed her PhD (USyd), supported by an NHMRC Scholarship, in 2007. This investigated clinician and consumer understandings of medical risk and uncertainty, leading to 10 peer reviewed papers and a book chapter in Australian and international publications.

Wendy joined the School of Medicine in 2010 as Associate Professor in General Practice and was appointed Associate Head of School (Learning and Teaching) in 2011, with a School wide responsibilty in the quality improvement of learning and teaching. Her experience and expertise in medical education were recognised by being appointed Professor of Medical Education and Director of Academic Program in 2012.
