Biography

Dr. Xiaoshu Zhu is senior lecturer, Director of Academic Program of Chinese Medicine, she is key academic for the Program since its inception in 1999. She is also clinical researcher of the Centre for Complementary Medicine Research. 

Xiaoshu is member of the inaugural Chinese Medicine Board of Australia appointed by the Australian Health Workforce Ministerial Council. She also serves as working editor for the Menstrual Disorders and Subfertility Group, the Cochrane Collaboration, a well-regarded international healthcare information organisation.

Xiaoshu graduated from Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (NJUTCM), one of the most prestigious TCM universities in China, with Bachelor’s Degree in 1984 and Master’s Degree in 1989. She completed her PhD (Health) study in 2008 from the Centre for Complementary Medicine Research.

Her entire career has been always in academic field and she has a passion in contemporary TCM tertiary education. She was offered academic position at NJUTCM upon her gradution, prior to her current appointment, she was Associate Professor in TCM. She has delivered and run TCM courses at various levels including undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in Asia, New Zealand and Australia. She has extensive management experience within the university sector both in China and Australia, and knows first hand the challenges of delivering high quality TCM education in today’s University environment. These strengths have brought her numerous professional credentials and recognitions. 

Dr Xiaoshu Zhu is registered Chinese herbalist and acupuncturist with the Chinese Medicne Board of Australia. She was the first clinician of the Chinese Medicine Clinical Research Centre, the first TCM service at the Women’s Services in a public hospital setting (Sydney South Western Area Health Service) in Australia.

Research

Xiaoshu is active researcher in the field of Chinese medicine with experience in conducting clinical trials and systematic reviews. Her main clinical research expertise is in women’s health, and she has developed her research interest in cancer care with the use of Chinese herbal medicine and acupuncture. She has a proven track record in research and publications with many collaborations in Australia and overseas.
