Biography

Emeritus Professor Roger Juchau joined UWS in October 1990 and was the Foundation Professor of Accounting and Management and the Business Dean for two periods.Roger officially retired in July 2007 when he was honoured to become an Emeritus Professor at UWS.

Roger’s teaching interests included financial accounting, financial management and accounting analysis. His principal research interests involved private wealth management, field studies on valuation of specialised assets, professional accounting education and financial management. His research has appeared in professional and academic journals and monographs.

He is currently continuing to undertake research and to utilise UWS resources and facilities to study the field of investment portfolio strategies and management. He is assisting the Divine Word University (DWU) in Madang, Papua New Guinea, to reform curriculum, provide strategic advice and review their accounting and finance programs. Many colleagues in the UWS School of Business have donated texts to the library of DWU.

DWU is a modern, progressive university. Their Madang campus is noted for its quality infrastructure and IT installations. All undergraduate students are supplied with laptops connecting them to the international university learning environment. Currently it also runs graduate business programs (in conjunction with Macquarie University) in Port Moresby and teaching (voluntary) is supplied by a team of international academics from Australia, Europe and North America. Roger is part of this team.

Roger was recently part of the 2011 Australian Universities Quality Agency (AUQA) team for an audit of DWU. It is the only university in PNG which has been subject to an external international audit. This external audit was part of the DWU’s drive to ensure that it offers quality academic programs and services on par with international best practice.

Since retiring, he has completed work on a number of jointly authored texts and research monographs:

  • Financial Planning in Australia (5th Ed) Lexis Nexis - forthcoming
  • Accounting: Information for Decisions (Revised 2nd Ed) Cengage (2009)
  • Fundamentals of Investing (3rd Ed) Pearson (2011)
  • Principles of Managerial Finance (6th Ed) Pearson (2011)
  • Colleges of Advanced Education in Australia: A Lasting Legacy, VDM, (2009)
  • The Interface of Accounting Education and Professional Training, Routledge, (2012)

The texts are in various editions, with the first produced in 1995 and, owing to their popularity and use across the business education sectors, the latest editions were released in 2011/2012. These texts are widely used in undergraduate courses in Australia and New Zealand, as well as in professional courses in finance, accounting and investments. The textbooks are supported by a range of learning software which has also widened their appeal.

This information has been contributed by Emeritus Professor Juchau.
