Research: Contemporary theories of affect and affordance to account for the fundamantal processes of audience experiences in media environments. User-centred and experience design in relation to media environments, products and campaigns.

ARC Project "Seeing Yourself In Digital Cultural Heritage" 2020 - 2023 with Rachel Hendery, Jenna Condi, Noel Burgess and Jonathan Allen.

Creative Industries - methods in production and theory; current trends in creative industries including augmented media, locative media; database imaginaries.

Practice: I have a strong, proven areas of practice in Communication Arts and Media. I am an experienced multi-media producer who has worked with a variety of cultural sector and private sector clients, devising, developing and producing large and boutique scale projects, most latterly as lead producer on the development phase of the refurbishment of the First World War Galleries for the Australian War Memorial, 2014. In my producing capacity I also advise and consult with creatives on audience experiences in media arts ennvironments, most specifically working with theatre and dance directors as a new media dramaturge. In this capacity I have worked with Stalker Theatre Company (2013), Urban Theatre Projects (2011) and the School of Arts and Media, UNSW ARC research project 'New Media Dramaturgies' as a workshop leader in 2014. I am also an established media artist, working across interactive and immersive installation, software development, intergrated performance/media and locative media.

See http://katerichards.net for more on this aspect of my research, which helps me keep at the cutting edge of communication media practice and research.
