Biography
Before joining UWS in May 2009, George Lafferty was Professor and Director of the Industrial Relations Centre, Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand (from 2003). He previously worked at the University of Queensland (Senior Lecturer and Reader) and Griffith University (Lecturer and Senior Lecturer). He completed a BA (Hons 1) in politics and sociology at Griffith University and a PhD in political theory at the University of Queensland. He also holds graduate qualifications in higher education teaching. His main areas of teaching and research include social and political theory, service sector employment, industrial relations and the role of unions. He has published on these topics in international journals and books, and has also participated in various government policy bodies related to employment and industrial relations. This research has also attracted extensive funding from various bodies in Australia and overseas, including several grants from the Australian Research Council.
