Biography

John Lodewijks completed a First class Honours degree in economics at the University of Sydney. He then took up an apointment as Teaching Fellow at the University of New England where he completed a Masters of Economics, specializing in Development economics. In 1979 he started work as a teaching and research assistant at Duke University while completing a M.A and PhD. During this time he received the American Association for Asian Studies 1983 Prize for best paper on Asia. After teaching at both Duke and Wake Forest University in the USA he took up a position at the University of New South Wales in 1985. During his 22 years at that institution he served as Head of Department and Director of the Centre for South Pacific Studies. He was awarded the Vice-Chancellor's Award for Teaching Excellence from UNSW in 2005. He also edited the History of Economics Review. In April 2007 he joined the University of Western Sydney as Professor and Head, School of Economics and Finance. In 2007 he was awarded the Carrick Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning.
