Congratulations on your family member's entry into Western Sydney University. We aim to making their time at the University one of the most memorable and enjoyable of their lives.

As family, there's quite a lot you can do to support them through the process of entering university. On this page you'll find everything you need – from partner programs and support services to financial assistance and more.

Have a look at our Parents' Guide to find out about the opportunities, services and facilities we have.

What role can parents play in their child's uni life?

Unlike high school, university study is much more flexible and less structured than what your child may be used to. Helping them keep track of their own time and work proactively can really help.

If you feel that your child may need help in any area of their university life, encourage them to seek out one of our many support services. There's a wide range to choose from, and they are all trained and willing to help.

Social life is one of the best parts of any university education. Strike the right balance between study and socialising and your son or daughter is more likely to do better.

Limitations on what information the university can provide about a student's enrolment

Academic and professional staff cannot provide parents or partners with information about their student without permission. All students are treated as adults. You will not be able to access information about your student's attendance, personal details, interaction with staff or results.

We're always ready to help. Find out about the services and support available to students.

Financial assistance

We offer a range of financial assistance through the Student Welfare Service to help students with education-related costs and living expenses. This includes interest-free loans and grants.

Remember, we want to do everything we can to see your family member succeed at university. Here are some of the things we can offer:

  • Textbook support:
Textbook support is available at the beginning of Autumn, Spring and Summer Sessions.
  • Food vouchers:
There are a number of community agencies that provide food assistance and students should access these services in the first instance. However students with urgent, immediate food needs, may be eligible for assistance from the Student Welfare Service. Food assistance may be provided as a one-off only.

If you would like to know more about food assistance, or if you are in need of food assistance, please see the Welfare Officer on your campus.
  • Centrelink support:
Students can get help with Centrelink matters - head to the Centrelink and study page for information.
  • Budgeting and managing your money:
Students can learn how to create a budget, find help with Centrelink, learn about debt and much more with our online Money matters tools.
  • Tax Help:
The Tax Clinic provides advice and support to students with their all things tax related.

Our Money matters page is a great place to find out what will work for you.
