Can't Achieve the Impossible? Letting Go of Perfectionism

University can be a very competitive and demanding environment, with a lot of importance placed on performance and achievement. This pressure can be especially hard to manage for people who have perfectionist tendencies. Unlike high achievers, perfectionists place expectations upon themselves that are beyond all reach or reason. They may procrastinate, experience anxiety and fear at the thought of just simply making a mistake, and feel a sense of inadequacy and quilt. Sometimes the stress and pressure can be so great that even really capable students seriously consider 'dropping out', rather than handing in work that is not perfect!

This 3 week group program will help you to become more aware of the ways in which perfectionism may impact upon your life. We will explore the helpful as well as the not-so-helpful aspects of having perfectionist standards and identify thoughts and behaviour that contribute to and maintain perfectionism. Together we will discuss practical strategies to cope with perfectionism and begin to accept and embrace our 'humanness'.

You will need to attend all 3 sessions.

Thinking of Dropping Out?

The first few months at university are never easy and you may have thought why am I here? Is this the course for me? Am I going to pass? I have too much else happening in my life to study! I can't afford to study! The stress is too much!

Talk to someone before you decide to drop-out as there may be options you have not considered. This one-off workshop will provide you with information that may assist in this important decision-making process. It is timed to take place just before the census date.

You will also have the opportunity to speak to a counsellor individually afterwards about your situtation.
