Student Activities Fee

Voluntary Student Unionism

In late 2005, the Federal Government adopted new legislation that changed the way in which student organisations can be funded at Australian universities. Before this change, universities charged a compulsory fee to all students to fund these organisations and in particular the range of services they provide.

The effect of the Government’s legislation is that universities will no longer levy a compulsory Student Activities Fee (SAF) to support the provision of these services. This applied to all UWS students from 1 January 2007.

Student Activities Fees for students at UWS

From Autumn session 2007, the Student Activities Fee will not be compulsory for commencing or continuing students.

If you have an outstanding Student Activities Fee debt from sessions prior to this it must be paid in full or an encumbrance will be placed on your student record, limiting your access to University services.
