About

An initiative of the Writing and Society Research Centre the Consortium is an innovative space for study and collaboration with leading cultural institutions and the prestigious London Consortium. Our partners include the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, the Sydney Writers' Festival, the Australia Museum and the State Library of New South Wales. We offer a challenging, rigorous coursework degree, that combines critical and theoretical discussion of the arts and culture with creative writing practice, and leads to a Master of Arts in Cultural and Creative Practice from the University of Western Sydney.
MA in Cultural and Creative Practice
The MA is structured to generate a productive dialogue between creative practice in writing and the arts and theoretical and critical approaches to culture. The MA mixes units related to writing and aesthetic practice, and key ideas that frame our cultural understandings with the opportunity to work with some of Australia’s leading writers, editors and critics in developing a substantial piece of creative writing or a significant critical work. Teaching staff for 2012 includes Gail Jones, Ivor Indyk, Hazel Smith and Anthony Uhlmann with guest lectures from Nick Jose, Steven Connor, and Bruno Clément.
