The Unischools Steer Challenge is an exciting collaborative project between the School of Natural Sciences at the UWS Hawkesbury Campus and participating high schools.
High school students have the opportunity to prepare a weaner steer to meet market specifications. They are responsible for the feeding and welfare of the steer, picking up valuable skills in animal care and cattle management in the process. It has also proven to be a great learning opportunity in communication and personal development. The project culminates with the students from participating schools being given the chance to show their steer at two competitions and compete for prizes recognising their efforts.
The project also provides a valuable opportunity for the promotion of agriculture in both schools and the general public.
