Adjunct Professor Michael Bounds

Biography

Associate Professor Bounds is an Urban Sociologist and author of Urban Social Theory:City, Self and Society (Oxford University Press 2004). A former Head of School at UWS, he has lectured and researched in sociology for over twenty five years in the academic programs of UWS, UNSW, UTS and in France and the UK. His research over the past 10 years has concentrated on the study of the social impacts of urban development, with a particular focus on urban consolidation and gentrification. He has undertaken research on strata title governance, brownfield redevelopment in Pyrmont-Ultimo in Sydney and master-planned development in the south west of Sydney. He is a member of the Planning Institute of Australia, The Australian Institute of Urban Studies and recently retired from the executive committee of Research Committee 43 of the International Sociological Association. He reviews for a number of academic publishers and urban, planning and sociological journals.

Associate Professor Bounds was formerly Director of the AHURI node for UWS and UNSW with the Urban Research Centre. He is also a Director of Cambridge Examinations P/L and Australian Research and Testing Services P/L. He has contributed to the development and teaching of the Master of Urban Management.
