25 Year History

2014 marks the University of Western Sydney’s 25th anniversary as a statutory institution. In 2013, celebrations will begin to commemorate this milestone.

One of the largest employers with certainly the largest footprint across one of Australia’s most dynamic population and business regions, UWS celebrates a present redolent with the riches of the past and the promises of the future.

Officially founded on 1 January 1989, the University of Western Sydney is in fact the result of decades of effort by the people of Western Sydney and their representatives to enjoy the same advantages as were available to other Australians. Steward of many of the West’s most significant traditions and built structures, the University is ‘owned’ by its people in a truly remarkable way.

The following pages provide focused studies which unpack some of the ‘People, Places and Events’ which have contributed to the University’s making.
