Extended Course

University Foundation Studies prepare you for study in a university environment. On successful completion, you can gain direct entry into the first year of the equivalent bachelor's degree at UWS.

Duration

This course runs for 12 months, which includes orientation, study, teaching and examination.

First term

In the first term, you will be required to complete six core units that are an excellent introduction to each of the specialised streams that are studied in terms two and three. 

First-term units*

The six first-term units are:

• Computer Literacy
• Foundations of Business
• Foundations of Science
• Living Skills
• Foundations of Mathematics
• The Structure of English.

Second and third terms

In the second term, you will choose one of five specialised streams which will continue to build on your knowledge throughout the second and third terms. The specialisation you choose is your direct route to your bachelor's degree at UWS.

For the second and third terms of your University Foundation Studies course, you choose one of the following five study specialisations based on your preferred university undergraduate program.

Each unit is assessed through a combination of continual assessment and mid-term and final examinations.

You will need to satisfy both requirements below to be eligible for entry to this course:

  • Academic: You must have successfully completed the equivalent of year 11 in Australia. Make sure you carefully read the *UWS International Academic Requirements (particularly the Undergraduate and Postgraduate Entry Requirements table) for country-specific entry requirements. Entry to Science/Engineering and Information Technology/Computing streams require previous study of Mathematics at the level of Preliminary HSC, HSC, or equivalent.

  • English: In your English language studies, you must have achieved IELTS (Academic) 5.5/TOEFL 525/(Computer based= 195).
