Note 2: The Diploma in Engineering Science is not available to international students at this time but will be available in mid-2013. Interested students should contact UWSCollege Admissions for further information or to express interest in this program. However, the Diploma in Engineering is currently available to international students.

About

The Diploma in Engineering Science aims to produce students who are fully prepared for study in the Bachelor of Engineering Science at the University of Western Sydney (UWS). It specifically addresses important prerequisite knowledge in the areas of Mathematics and Physics.

This course offers you the opportunity to focus on an area of speciality by undertaking a key program in the disciplines of civil, computer, construction, electrical, environmental, mechanical, robotics and mechatronics, and telecommunications. The Engineering course is widely recognised for delivering the full suite of theoretical and practical units, and hands-on experience in the area of engineering.


You will study the following units in your Fast Track program:
  • Physics and Materials
  • Electrical Fundamentals
  • Engineering and Design Concepts
  • Engineering Computing
  • Engineering Design and Construction Practice
  • Fundamentals of Mechanics
  • Mathematics for Engineers 1
  • Mathematics for Engineers Preliminary
  • Tertiary Study Skills*.
*No advanced standing at university will be granted for this unit.

You will study the following units in your Standard Program:

For information on the intake dates for your course, refer to the Academic Intake Dates section of the website.

Minimum entry requirements are successful* completion of Australian Year 12 or equivalent or UWSCollege University Foundation Studies or equivalent.

For students who have completed their HSC, ATAR entry requirements for this course are:

  • Standard (three terms) — ATAR > 50 (indicative)
  • Fast Track (two terms) — ATAR > 55 (indicative).

Students are also assumed to have completed study in English and Mathematics at senior high school level.

For students who have completed UWSCollege University Foundations Studies, the entry requirements are:

  • Standard (three terms) — a Grade Point Average of 5.5 or higher and a "C" grade in University Foundation Studies Mathematics
  • Fast Track (two terms) — a Grade Point Average of 6.0 or higher and a "B" grade in University Foundation Studies Mathematics
  • a "C" grade at University Foundation Studies English.

Note: Entry scores are indicative only. Other factors may be taken into consideration.

* Successful completion means gaining a 50% pass in all required subjects.

You can complete the equivalent of one year of full-time study over 12 months (three terms) or eight months (two terms) of full-time study.  
Each unit is assessed through a combination of continual assessment and mid-term and final examinations. Details for each unit are contained in the individual Unit Outlines.

Successful completion of the Diploma in Engineering Science provides advanced standing of 80 credit points (equivalent to a year of study) in the Bachelor of Engineering Science at UWS.

To successfully complete your diploma, you will need at least a 50% pass in all required units.
