Detailed answer
Australian students studying a UWSCollege diploma are offered a Commonwealth supported place (CSP). The Australian Government contributes to the study costs for students enrolled in a CSP course. Students must contribute the remainder through their student contribution. The amount of contribution depends on the discipline area (or student contribution band) of the unit of study that they are enrolled in.
To work out your exact student contribution, you can use the student contribution calculator available at the bottom of this page on the UWS website.
| Student contribution band | SCR (per EFTSL) |
|---|---|
| Band 3 Law, Accounting, Administration, Economics, Commerce, Dentistry, Medicine and Veterinary Science | $9,792 |
| Band 2 Mathematics*, Statistics, Computing, Built Environment, Other Health, Allied Health, Science*, Engineering, Surveying and Agriculture | $8,363 |
| Band 1 Humanities, Behavioural Science, Social Studies, Education*, Clinical Psychology, Foreign Languages, Visual and Performing Arts and Nursing* | $,5868 |
| National Priorities (NP) | ** |
* If you are a Mathematics, Science, Education, Nursing or Midwifery graduate you may be eligible for a HECS-HELP Benefit.
** The government has announced that, subject to the passage of legislation, from 1 January 2013, the maximum student contribution amounts for all students enrolled in Maths or Science units will increase from the 2012 National Priority rate to the 2013 Band 2 rate.
For diploma students who are Commonwealth supported, HECS-HELP is available. HECS-HELP is a loan program to help eligible Commonwealth supported students to pay their student contribution amounts.
How does a HECS-HELP loan work?
Eligible students can pay part of their contribution up-front and take out a HECS-HELP loan for the rest through the HECS-HELP scheme.
Students who pay $500 or more of their student contributions for a study period up-front receive a 10% discount.
Eligible students who don’t want to pay any of their student contribution amounts up-front can use a HECS-HELP loan for the whole amount. Students who use a HECS-HELP loan will be required to pay their debt through the tax system when they earn above the minimum threshold ($49,095 for the 2012/13 income year) for compulsory repayment, even if they are still studying.
For more information on HECS-HELP, visit the goingtouni website.
