Cancellation, Appeals & Special Needs

If you wish to cancel or postpone your IELTS test notice of cancellation or postponement must be received no later than 5 weeks before your test date. No refund will be provided for notice given after this cut off. An administration fee applies to all cancellations or test date changes. Details will be provided at the time of application.

Unable to attend your test date

If you are unable to attend your test date due to serious illness you may be allowed to transfer to another date. You must complete the Request for Refund and Test Date Transfer form (available from the IELTS Test Administration Centre) and submit it in person to the IELTS Administrator with supporting documentation and payment of a transfer fee ($82.50) within 5 days of the test.

Refunds are not normally given for failure to attend a test. Refunds will only be considered in cases of hospitalisation (serious illness or injury), bereavement (loss of a close family member), trauma (victim of crime) or military service and must be accompanied by appropriate documentation. You must complete the Request for Refund Form (PDF, 132.0 Kb) and submit it with supporting documentation to the IELTS Centre no later than 5 days after the test date.

Please note that if you have a medical reason for not attending your test, the form must be completed by your doctor and include the medical practice's stamp and be accompanied by a medical certificate. If your request for a refund is denied you may be offered a transfer to another test date upon payment of a transfer fee. Please read the Refund or Transfer Request Information (PDF, 35.8Kb) document for more specific information.

Appeals Process

You have the right to appeal your IELTS test results but must do so within six weeks of your test date. Please note that there is a fee payment involved, which will be refunded if the appeal is upheld. Appeals need to be lodged at the IELTS Test Administration Centre. You will need to:

   1. Complete the IELTS Enquiry on Results (EOR) Form (PDF, 376.0Kb)
   2. Attach your original Test Result Form.
   3. Submit payment of A$176 for one or more modules (this will be refunded if your appeal is upheld).

Appeals should be finalised within 6-8 weeks from date of submission.

Special Needs

Please inform the IELTS test centre at the time of your application (or within six weeks of your test) if you have any special requirements to enable you to sit the test. You will need to provide original documentation to support any special needs requests.
