Sharing Large Files

If you deal with video files, large image files, or other types of media that are too large to attach to an email, there are a host of free options you can use to send these items via the web.

WeTransfer (opens in a new window)

This service is free for files up to 2Gb in size. It's really easy, you just click 'Add files' to select the files you want to send, enter the email address of the person you are sending the files to as well as your own email, and you're done. You can add an optional message if you want to.

CloudStor (opens in a new window)

This service is also free - it is provided by AARNET which is the internet service provider to most Australian universities. File size limit is also 2Gb.
You sign in using your MyUWS account: first select 'University of Western Sydney' from the login provider drop-down, enter your credentials and agree to the terms.

CloudStor also has a voucher feature - if you need someone who is not at UWS to send you a large file, you can send them a one-off voucher which enables them to send large files to you.

Currently a small number of UWS accounts are not able to login, but IT are working to fix this.

DropBox (opens in a new window)

DropBox is designed to be a "folder in the sky" that you can access on any computer or device, and is excellent at that job. It is also a pretty good filesender, once you have signed up and installed dropbox on your computer, you can simply put the files you want to send in the Public folder in your DropBox folder, and right-click to obtain a link that you can email to people. When they click the link they will download the file.
