Arts in Asia Award Nominations

Writing and Society's China Australia Literary Forum 2013 and the Australia-India Literatures International Forum 2012 have both been nominated for the inaugural Australian Arts in Asia Awards.
"The awards recognise, celebrate and promote the significant number of Australian artists engaging in Asia, contributing to stronger, deeper and broader cultural links with Asian nations."
The Writing and Society Research Centre was the only organisation to have two of its events nominated in the literature category. These nominations are recognition of the Centre's ongoing efforts to build meaningful connections between writers, publishers and critics from Asia and Australia.
The federal Minister for the Arts, The Hon. Tony Burke MP, says “Australia’s engagement in Asia isn’t simply about trade, business and foreign affairs, there is a dynamic creative engagement which allows Australian art to be experienced in Asia, great works from Asia to be available here and most importantly fresh creativity which is only possible because of the way we work together." He goes on to say that the awards celebrate the "diversity in Australia and across the region and how making connections through art promotes understanding and appreciation of all cultures.”
